Otti: Why I’m seeking Second Term as Abia Governor
Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has said his decision to seek re-election is driven by the need to complete ongoing projects and deliver fully on his administration’s mandate.
The governor made the disclosure at his country home in Nvosi, Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area, during a 10,000-man solidarity march organised by stakeholders in the area and convened by Dannie Ubani, the Labour Party House of Assembly candidate in the 2023 general elections.
Otti explained that he would not have considered a second term if his administration had accomplished all its set objectives.
> “If I had finished the work that I came to do, I wouldn’t be seeking a second term,” he said. “If this administration had completed its mission, there would have been no need to seek re-election. But there is still significant work to be done in this administration’s quest to transform the state.”
While acknowledging the importance of opposition in a democratic system, the governor criticised certain opposition elements in the state, accusing them of engaging in what he described as “politics of witchcraft.”
He dismissed threats from opposition figures, stating that they do not represent up to five percent of the state’s population. According to him, constructive criticism should focus on recognising achievements and suggesting improvements, rather than outright denial of visible progress.
Otti also expressed appreciation to the people of the state for their continued support and commended Ubani for organising the solidarity rally.
In his remarks, Ubani said the march was aimed at demonstrating support for the governor and showcasing his administration’s achievements, reaffirming his commitment to Otti’s re-election bid in 2027.
