Reps urge FG to declare State of Emergency in FCT Healthcare Facilities
The House of Representatives has called on the Federal Government to declare a state of emergency in healthcare facilities across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
This appeal follows mounting concerns over the deteriorating condition of health services and infrastructure in the nation’s capital.
The motion, sponsored by Nnamdi Prince Ezechi, who represents Ndokwa East, Ndokwa West, and Ukwuani Federal Constituency of Delta State, stressed that existing facilities in the FCT are overstretched. He noted that the situation has led to preventable deaths due to inadequate infrastructure and a shortage of medical personnel.
The House further urged the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare to collaborate with the FCT Administration in assessing the condition of these facilities and taking necessary remedial measures.
In addition, the FCT Administration was encouraged to engage private sector partners in a comprehensive overhaul and upgrade of the territory’s healthcare system to ensure improved and efficient service delivery.
The motion was unanimously adopted and referred to the appropriate committee for further legislative consideration.
This development is aimed at tackling the ongoing healthcare crisis in the FCT and ensuring residents gain access to quality medical care.
