SGF, Akume, appoints veteran Journalist Yomi Odunuga as Special Adviser
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, has named respected journalist and columnist Yomi Odunuga as his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity.
This appointment, officially announced on Thursday, takes immediate effect.
Until his latest appointment, Odunuga served as Deputy Editor at The Nation newspaper, where he was responsible for special interviews and critical articles.
A seasoned journalist, poet, lyricist, and columnist, Yomi Odunuga began his media career at The Punch newspaper as a Proof Reader over 27 years ago.
He would later rise through the ranks to become the State House Correspondent, Abuja Bureau Chief, and eventually Group Political Editor of The Punch.
His fearless and insightful commentary on national issues during those years earned him wide recognition, especially through his popular columns Life in Abuja and Inside Aso Rock.
In 2006, Odunuga joined The Nation as Assistant Editor and Abuja Bureau Chief, where his well-regarded Knucklehead column continued his sharp analysis of socio-political affairs.
In 2019, he was appointed Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Deputy President of the 9th Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, a position he held until 2023.
After his tenure at the National Assembly, Odunuga returned to The Nation before receiving this latest appointment.
His vast experience in political reporting and media management is expected to further strengthen the SGF’s communication strategy as the government intensifies its engagements with Nigerians.
