Tax reform row eases as KPMG meets NRS Chairman, Adedeji
The lingering disagreement between the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) and global tax advisory firm KPMG over the newly introduced tax laws appears to have eased, following a meeting between both parties on Monday.
The Executive Chairman of the NRS, Dr. Zacch Adedeji, hosted a delegation of senior KPMG executives on a courtesy visit, weeks after public exchanges over the perceived weaknesses of the Nigeria Tax Act (NTA).
In an earlier review, KPMG had raised concerns about what it described as gaps, errors and contradictions within the new tax framework, a position that triggered a sharp response from the Federal Government, which argued that the firm misunderstood the intent and structure of the reforms.
However, in a statement issued after Monday’s engagement, the NRS said the meeting provided an opportunity for clarity and constructive dialogue.
According to the revenue agency, the KPMG delegation commended Adedeji for his leadership and the pace at which the new tax laws were being implemented.
“The Executive Chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service, Dr. Zacch Adedeji, today received a delegation of top management from KPMG on a courtesy visit,” the statement read.
“The KPMG executives commended the Executive Chairman for his leadership and the timely implementation of the new tax laws, noting that their initial apprehensions have been significantly allayed.”
The statement added that the KPMG team acknowledged the necessity and timeliness of the reforms, describing them as critical to strengthening tax administration and supporting Nigeria’s economic growth.
Both parties also agreed to maintain professional engagement going forward, with KPMG pledging continued collaboration in support of effective revenue generation and fiscal reforms.

The meeting signals a shift from public disagreement to dialogue, as stakeholders continue to adjust to Nigeria’s evolving tax landscape.
