UniCal suspends 19 students over alleged examination misconduct

The University of Calabar (UniCal) has suspended 19 students over alleged examination misconduct following recommendations by the institution’s Students’ Disciplinary Committee.

The suspension was conveyed in a letter signed by the Director of Administration, Dr. Citizen Ekpo, on behalf of the Registrar, Dr. Chukwuka Icha, and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Calabar.

Confirming the development, the Head of the university’s Public Relations Unit, Mr. Effiong Eyo, said the decision was approved by the university senate after considering the committee’s recommendations.

According to him, the affected students have been suspended for one academic session covering the 2025/2026 academic year.

“The university has directed that the students should resume their studies in the 2026/2027 academic session,” Eyo said.

He explained that the affected students are drawn from several faculties, including Administration, Social Sciences, Biological Sciences, Arts, Education, Allied Medical Sciences, Pharmacy and Environmental Sciences.

Others are from the Departments of Nursing Science, Peace and Conflict Studies, Science Laboratory Technology, Estate Management, Marketing and related programmes.

The university has directed all deans, heads of departments and relevant units to enforce the suspension and ensure full compliance with the directive.
