Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has assured residents that between eight and 10 major road projects across the territory will be completed and inaugurated before the end of the year, reaffirming the commitment of the FCT Administration to delivering critical infrastructure.

Wike gave the assurance on Monday during an inspection tour of ongoing road projects across the territory, where he expressed satisfaction with the pace of work on the long-delayed Apo–Karshi Road and the Bwari–Kubwa Road.

Addressing concerns over the political calendar and its possible impact on project execution, the minister insisted that governance remains a continuous process under President Bola Tinubu’s administration and dismissed suggestions that the government should slow down because of the approaching 2027 elections.

“Has the tenure of Mr President ended? Certainly not. His first tenure will be ending precisely May 29, 2027. So, if that is the case, it means that the work has also not ended,” Wike said.

Speaking on the Apo–Karshi Road, the minister recalled that the project was originally awarded in 2010 but suffered years of delays due to the poor performance of the initial contractor.

He explained that the FCT Administration terminated the contract and awarded it to a new contractor, resulting in significant progress on the project.

During the inspection of the Bwari–Kubwa Road, Wike acknowledged the difficult terrain confronting engineers but warned contractors against seeking extensions to the agreed completion timeline.

He assured them that the administration would continue to release funds promptly to ensure the project is completed before the peak of the rainy season.

The minister reiterated that the FCT Administration remains on course to deliver between eight and 10 strategic road projects before the end of the year, adding that timely funding would enable contractors to take full advantage of the current favourable weather conditions and complete the projects as scheduled.
