Anambra First Lady calls for united front against gender-based violence
The First Lady of Anambra State has called on citizens, government agencies, and community leaders to join forces in combating gender-based violence (GBV) across the state. She made the appeal during a recent event aimed at raising awareness and promoting initiatives to protect women and girls.
Speaking at the gathering, the First Lady emphasized that GBV remains a significant threat to societal well-being and development, urging collective responsibility to prevent abuse, exploitation, and harassment. “No single individual or institution can end this menace alone. We must all work together, families, communities, and the government,to safeguard our women and children,” she said.
She highlighted the importance of education, advocacy, and strong support systems for victims, stressing that survivors of gender-based violence should receive timely assistance, counseling, and legal protection.
The First Lady also commended non-governmental organizations, law enforcement agencies, and community groups that have partnered with the state government to implement programs aimed at reducing GBV. She urged continued collaboration to create a safe and empowering environment for women and girls.
Her call aligns with broader national efforts to address gender-based violence, emphasizing that community engagement, awareness campaigns, and policy enforcement are key to achieving meaningful change.I
