CAJ President condoles NUJ over death of Seven Journalists in Gombe crash
The President of the Congress of African Journalists (CAJ) and former National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Chris Isiguzo, has expressed deep grief over the death of seven journalists who lost their lives in a fatal road accident in Gombe State.
In a condolence message issued on Monday, Isiguzo described the incident as a dark and painful moment for the journalism profession, saying the tragedy has left the entire media community in mourning.
He noted that the loss was particularly heartbreaking as the deceased journalists were members of the Gombe State Council of the NUJ, which also serves as the home council of the current National President of the Union, Comrade Alhassan Yahya Abdullahi.
Isiguzo extended his heartfelt condolences to the NUJ National President, the leadership of the Union at both national and state levels, as well as the families, friends, and colleagues of the deceased journalists.
“These were dedicated journalists who embarked on a journey to celebrate a colleague and never returned,” he said, adding that their deaths represent a huge loss not only to their families and the NUJ, but to the journalism profession in Nigeria and across Africa.
The CAJ President also prayed for the speedy recovery of journalists who sustained injuries in the accident, while calling on members of the NUJ nationwide to remain united and supportive during the period of mourning.
“Our hearts are broken, but our collective spirit remains unbowed,” Isiguzo said, as he prayed for God to grant the bereaved families the strength to bear the loss and eternal rest to the souls of the departed.
Seven journalists were confirmed dead by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) following a lone accident involving an NUJ bus in Gombe State while returning from a wedding ceremony in the Gombe South Senatorial District.

The tragic incident has continued to draw condolences from individuals, media organisations, and professional bodies across the country.
