Trump hosts Netanyahu as Iran, Gaza top White House talks
United States President Donald Trump is scheduled to host Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House on Wednesday, with high-level discussions expected to focus on Iran and the broader Middle East crisis.
Prime Minister Netanyahu disclosed ahead of the meeting that the primary focus of the talks would be ongoing diplomatic engagements between Washington and Tehran. He said he intends to present Israel’s position on the negotiations with the Islamic Republic, particularly in light of growing security concerns.
Beyond Iran, the two leaders are also expected to deliberate on the escalating humanitarian and security situation in the Gaza Strip, as well as other key regional developments shaping the Middle East.
Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth reported that Netanyahu plans to brief President Trump with updated intelligence assessments on Iran’s missile programme, which Israel considers a significant threat to its national security.
The report further indicated that the Israeli Prime Minister would raise concerns over what he described as Tehran’s violent crackdown on its own citizens. International human rights organisations have, over the years, accused Iranian authorities of using force to suppress anti-government protests.
During periods of unrest — including protests that intensified in early January — thousands of demonstrators were reportedly killed, according to rights groups, though Iranian officials have consistently disputed such figures.
The White House meeting is seen as part of ongoing strategic coordination between the United States and Israel amid heightened tensions in the Middle East.
