BREAKING: Gov. Fubara names new SSG, Chief of Staff
Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has appointed Dr. Dagogo S.A. Wokoma as the new Secretary to the State Government (SSG) and Barrister Sunny Ewule as Chief of Staff, in a move widely seen as part of the ongoing political recalibration in the state.
The appointments were announced in a Special Government Announcement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Onwuka Nzeshi, and made available to journalists on Thursday.
According to the statement, both appointments take immediate effect, while the swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. at the Executive Council Chamber, Government House, Port Harcourt.
Dr. Wokoma replaces Mr Benibo Anabraba as SSG, while Ewule succeeds Edison Ehie as Chief of Staff. No official reason was given for the removal of the former occupants of the offices.
Political observers believe the appointments may be connected to recent reconciliation efforts between Governor Fubara and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, following the intervention of President Bola Tinubu to resolve the political crisis in the state.
The crisis had earlier led to impeachment threats against the governor before peace was brokered between the opposing camps.
The Rivers State House of Assembly, led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule, subsequently withdrew impeachment proceedings against the governor and his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Odu.
The latest appointments also come shortly after Governor Fubara dissolved a cabinet comprising eight commissioners and relieved all Special Advisers of their duties as part of efforts to restructure his administration.
