INEC fixes June 20 for Rivers South-East Senatorial by-election
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that a by-election to fill the vacant Rivers South-East Senatorial District seat will hold on June 20.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner in Rivers State, Johnson Alalibo, disclosed this in a statement issued to journalists on Thursday in Port Harcourt.
According to him, the election will take place between 8:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. across 88 registration areas/wards and 1,629 polling units in the seven local government areas that make up the senatorial district.
The affected local government areas are Andoni, Opobo/Nkoro, Eleme, Tai, Oyigbo, Khana and Gokana.
Alalibo assured residents and stakeholders of INEC’s commitment to delivering a free, fair and credible exercise, urging eligible voters to come out and participate peacefully.
He also called for calm and cooperation from all political actors and voters in the senatorial district ahead of the by-election.
