Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has dismissed reports suggesting he defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), insisting that he remains a member of the ruling party.

Fubara made the clarification on Wednesday during an inspection tour of the newly constructed General Hospital and the remodelled Neuropsychiatric Hospital in the state.

He said the rumours making the rounds in sections of the media were false and urged the public to disregard what he described as misinterpretations of social media speculation.

“I know that there has been a lot of drama in the media; one story or another. I am a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and nothing has changed. People should stop using whatever situation that they pick up from social media or their own interpretation of any situation to present me wrongly,” he said.

“I’ve not gone anywhere. I’m still a member of the APC, and I remain a member. Whatever happens, what is important is supporting the overall interest of the party,” Fubara added.

The governor’s clarification comes amid growing political speculation following reports that his brother, Mr Blessing Fubara, recently joined the NDC, fueling rumours of a wider political realignment within his camp.

During the facility inspection, Fubara was conducted round by the Director of Medical Services in the Rivers State Ministry of Health, Dr Vincent Wachukwu, who led him through key sections including wards, conference hall, ICT centre, hostel and staff quarters.

He expressed satisfaction with the completion of the projects, noting that they were designed to address critical healthcare gaps in the area.

Fubara explained that the establishment of both the general and psychiatric hospitals was driven by the need to improve access to healthcare for surrounding communities, adding that the facilities would ease pressure on the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH).

He described the projects as a fulfillment of promises made to the people, stressing that his administration remains committed to delivering infrastructure that directly impacts citizens.
