FRSC confirms 39 involved in Abuja multi-vehicle collision
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed that 39 people were involved in a multiple-vehicle crash on the Kugbo Furniture Market axis of the AYA–Nyanya route in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The Acting Corps Public Education Officer, Mrs. Felicia Kalu, disclosed in a statement on Tuesday that the accident occurred at about 4:48 p.m. on Monday and involved six vehicles, including two tippers, a commercial bus, and private cars.
She said the FRSC rescue team from Zebra 12 Unit arrived within four minutes of receiving the distress call and immediately began life-saving operations.
“In a coordinated rescue effort, officers successfully extricated a trapped victim from one of the heavily damaged tippers, administered first aid, and evacuated him to the National Hospital for further treatment,” Kalu stated.
Out of the 39 persons involved, two male victims sustained injuries ranging from bruises to fractures, with one receiving first aid at the scene. FRSC personnel worked to stabilise the situation, prevent further casualties, and ensure the safety of other road users.
Kalu noted that the Unit Commander supervised officers and marshals on the ground, coordinating rescue and traffic management operations. Heavy-duty recovery equipment was deployed to remove the vehicles obstructing the highway.
“Coordinated traffic control measures prevented potential gridlock and restored normal flow along this busy corridor,” she added.
The crashed vehicles were handed over to the Karu Police Division for further investigation.
She also quoted the Corps Marshal, Malam Shehu Mohammed, as reiterating FRSC’s commitment to protecting lives through rapid emergency response, professional rescue operations, and effective traffic management.
The corps marshal further urged motorists, especially drivers of heavy-duty vehicles, to observe safe speed limits, maintain lane discipline, and remain vigilant to prevent avoidable accidents.
