BREAKING: Sultan declares Friday as Eid-el-Fitr
The Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, has declared Friday, March 20, 2026, as the day for the celebration of Eid-el-Fitr in Nigeria.
The announcement follows the non-sighting of the crescent moon marking the end of Ramadan across the country.
In a statement issued by the Wazirin Sokoto, Professor Sambo Wali Junaidu, the Sultanate Council confirmed that no verified report of the Shawwal 1447AH crescent was received from any part of Nigeria on Wednesday.
Consequently, Thursday, March 19, will complete the 30 days of Ramadan, with Friday marking the first day of Shawwal and the commencement of Eid-el-Fitr celebrations nationwide.
The Sultan called on Muslims to use the festive period to pray for peace, unity, and sustained progress in Nigeria, as the faithful mark the end of the holy month of fasting.
