Gov Bago praised as IBB Hospital achieves medical milestone
Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida Specialist Hospital has recorded another medical milestone following the successful completion of two delicate brain surgeries on patients diagnosed with pituitary tumours.
The surgeries were carried out using advanced endoscopic techniques through the nose, a minimally invasive procedure regarded as a major breakthrough in neurosurgery within the state.
The operations were led by neurosurgeons, Dr. Uthman Uthman and Dr. Orji Kalu, with support from anesthesiologist Dr. Olurode Yunus and the hospital’s theatre team.
Both patients were reportedly experiencing severe vision problems before undergoing surgery and are now said to be recovering successfully.
The latest achievement adds to a series of complex medical procedures recently conducted at the hospital. In recent months, the medical team has also handled a complicated spine surgery, treated a severe brain injury resulting from a road accident and carried out a total knee replacement procedure.
Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Bala Waziri, attributed the growing success to improvements in medical equipment, staff training and hospital management.
The development has also been linked to ongoing investments in the health sector by the administration of Umar Bago aimed at improving access to quality healthcare services in Niger State.
With the increasing capacity for advanced medical procedures, the hospital is gradually positioning itself as a centre capable of handling complex treatments that previously pushed many Nigerians to seek medical care abroad.
