NAWOJ, PLAN International deepen collaboration on women, girls advocacy

The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has announced the commencement of implementation activities under its partnership with PLAN International Nigeria following the signing of a strategic collaboration agreement between both organisations last year.

The partnership is focused on strengthening advocacy, community engagement and communication on issues affecting women, girls and vulnerable groups across Nigeria.

According to the association, the collaboration has now entered the implementation stage with onboarding and stakeholder engagement activities already underway in selected states.

As part of the initiative, PLAN International Nigeria, through its ASPIRE Project, completed the engagement of 12 Women Rights Organisations (WROs), including seven in Bauchi State and five in Sokoto State.

To officially commence activities, onboarding programmes were held in both states with representatives of NAWOJ actively participating in the engagements.

At the Sokoto centre, the association was represented by Rabi Muhammed Gwadabawa, Vice President Zone A, alongside Aisha Madawaki, Chairperson of the NAWOJ Sokoto State Chapter.

Similarly, the Bauchi centre had Hauwa Idris Shall, Secretary Zone E, and Rashida Yusuf, Chairperson of the NAWOJ Bauchi State Chapter, representing the association.

NAWOJ stated that the onboarding sessions were aimed at strengthening collaboration among stakeholders, improving communication strategies and enhancing partnerships with Women Rights Organisations toward achieving the objectives of the project.

The association described the collaboration as a major step toward deepening partnerships between media professionals and development organisations in promoting gender inclusion, advocacy and sustainable community development.

NAWOJ also reaffirmed its commitment to supporting initiatives that amplify the voices of women and vulnerable groups while promoting impactful journalism and social transformation across the country.
