The United States military has launched a fresh round of airstrikes targeting Iranian military positions in the Strait of Hormuz, further escalating tensions in one of the world’s most strategically important waterways.

In a statement posted on social media, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) said the operation was carried out under the authorisation of President Donald Trump as part of efforts to weaken Iran’s ability to threaten international maritime traffic.

> “At the direction of the Commander in Chief, US Central Command forces have started conducting additional strikes against Iran to further degrade their ability to threaten freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz,” CENTCOM said.

The command accused Iran of carrying out what it described as “unjustified aggression” against commercial vessels and civilian crews navigating the vital shipping corridor.

According to CENTCOM, the latest military action is aimed at holding Tehran accountable for the attacks and safeguarding freedom of navigation through the strategic waterway.

> “The United States is holding Iran accountable for recent unjustified aggression against commercial shipping and civilian crews freely navigating a vital international waterway,” the statement added.

The latest strikes mark another escalation in the ongoing confrontation between Washington and Tehran, with the Strait of Hormuz remaining at the centre of heightened regional tensions due to its importance to global oil shipments.
