BREAKING: Nigeria’s Inflation Rate Falls to 15.39% in August — NBS
Nigeria’s headline inflation rate fell to 15.39 per cent in August 2026, down marginally from 15.43 per cent recorded in July, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).
The NBS disclosed this on Tuesday in its Consumer Price Index (CPI) report for August 2026.
The latest figure represents a 0.04 percentage-point decline from the July inflation rate.
The bureau also reported that the August 2026 headline inflation rate was significantly lower than the 23.14 per cent recorded in August 2025.
According to the NBS, the month-on-month headline inflation rate stood at 0.71 per cent in August, representing a decline of 0.86 percentage points from the 1.57 per cent recorded in July.
The bureau explained that the lower month-on-month figure means that the rate at which the average price level increased in August was slower than the rate recorded in the preceding month.
The NBS stated: “In August 2026, the Headline inflation rate stood at 15.39%, down from 15.43% in July 2026 and stood at 23.14% in the same month of the preceding year (August 2025).”
The latest inflation data indicate a marginal easing in the headline inflation rate, alongside a more noticeable slowdown in the month-on-month movement of prices.
The NBS is expected to provide further details on the drivers of the August inflation rate and the performance of its major components in the full report.
