Three confirmed dead, Nine rescued in Ikorodu building collapse — LASEMA

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has confirmed the recovery of three bodies from the site of the collapsed building at the Otta-Ona area of Ikorodu, Lagos. The tragic incident, which occurred on Tuesday afternoon, involved a two-storey building still under construction.
In a statement released to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday, LASEMA’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, revealed that three people trapped under the rubble were recovered dead, while nine adult males were successfully rescued and attended to by the agency’s Pre-Hospital Care Unit.
“Following distress alerts received at 2:02 p.m., LASEMA swiftly activated the state’s Emergency Response Plans from Agbowa and Alausa,” Oke-Osanyintolu explained.
He added that the agency’s response teams arrived at the scene at 2:40 p.m. and immediately commenced search and rescue operations. “It was discovered that a two-storey building undergoing construction had collapsed, with three persons trapped under the debris,” he said.
The bodies of the deceased have since been handed over to officers at Igbogbo Police Station. As of press time, search and rescue operations had concluded, though investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the collapse.
The agency assured that safety measures were fully activated, with the area cordoned off to ensure the security of both rescue personnel and the public.
The incident adds to the growing concern over building safety standards in Lagos State, with authorities once again calling for strict compliance with construction regulations to prevent future tragedies.
