Air Chief orders higher vigilance, commits to modernised air power strategy
The Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, has rolled out a renewed strategic course for the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), emphasising readiness, personnel welfare, and intelligence-driven operations during an operational tour of the Tactical Air Command (TAC) in Makurdi on Thursday.
The visit, his first to TAC since assuming office, forms part of his nationwide engagement with frontline units to assess operational conditions and strengthen command oversight.
Speaking during a durbar with officers, airmen, airwomen and civilian staff, Air Marshal Aneke said his newly introduced Command Philosophy is designed to build a motivated, professional and mission-ready force capable of delivering decisive air power in support of national security objectives. He described TAC as a “critical backbone” of the Service, noting its contributions to Operation WHIRL STROKE and other security theatres.
“The nation is depending on us. Your professionalism and courage continue to inspire confidence,” he told personnel, adding that the current security realities demand sustained vigilance, improved aircraft serviceability and heightened operational tempo. “This is not the time to slow down,” he warned.
A major highlight of his address was the reaffirmation of his “Welfare for Enhanced Warfare” policy. The CAS stressed that the fighting capability of the force is tied to the wellbeing of its personnel, assuring that the Service will prioritise timely allowances, better living conditions and stronger administrative and medical systems. He encouraged open communication, noting that personnel concerns would be addressed through a structured system of priority responses.
On operational reforms, Air Marshal Aneke announced a shift toward smarter, technology-supported and intelligence-driven missions, supported by a strengthened safety culture. He said recent Federal Government investments in aircraft, armaments and training must translate into measurable results on the field.
“The confidence reposed in the Nigerian Air Force through these investments must be justified with professionalism, discipline and visible impact,” he added.
Responding, the Air Officer Commanding TAC, Air Vice Marshal Patrick Obeya, pledged full alignment with the CAS’ vision, assuring that the Command remains committed to delivering decisive air power across all operational theatres.
The CAS concluded his visit by charging personnel to remain loyal, vigilant and committed to the core ideals of the Service, promising continued reforms aimed at boosting welfare, operational efficiency and career development.
