Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona, passes on at 91
Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has officially announced the passing of the Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona.
The revered monarch died earlier today at the age of 91, leaving behind an enduring legacy that transformed Ijebuland, Ogun State, and Nigeria at large.
Governor Abiodun, in a statement, described the monarch’s death as a moment of double grief, as it coincides with the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari in a London hospital.
Oba Sikiru Adetona, who ascended the throne in 1960, was widely regarded as a unifying force, a custodian of culture, and a progressive leader. Over his long reign, he became a symbol of peace and development, championing the cause of education, healthcare, and economic empowerment for his people.
According to the Governor, Ijebuland under Oba Adetona witnessed significant infrastructure expansion, community development, and cultural renaissance, positioning the region as a model of steady growth and good governance in Nigeria.
The Governor acknowledged the monarch’s selfless service and unwavering commitment to the welfare of his people, praying for the peaceful repose of his soul and fortitude for the people of Ijebuland to bear the loss.
