Edo Government dismisses salary payment rumours

The Edo State Government has dismissed recent rumours claiming that local government workers are being owed salaries due to an alleged crisis within the councils.
In a statement released in Benin City, the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Fred Itua, described these rumours as false and malicious, intended to mislead the public.
He urged the public to ignore the false claims, which he said were spread by those envious of the significant progress made by Governor Monday Okpebholo’s administration since it began in November 2024.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment to the welfare of workers in Edo State, Itua clarified that no worker, including local government staff, is owed any salaries. He confirmed that all payments, including for January 2025, have been made.
“The State Government has consistently paid the salaries of local government workers without fail since taking office. This is especially impressive given the challenges the State has faced with allocation payments due to the ongoing legal disputes between the State and local government chairmen,” Itua said.
He added that Governor Okpebholo’s dedication to ensuring that no Edo worker suffers undue hardship reflects his strong commitment to workers’ welfare.
