Journalists injured in road accident during project commissioning in Bauchi
A team of journalists drawn from various media organisations was on Friday involved in a road accident while covering the commissioning of projects by the North East Development Commission (NEDC) in Bauchi State.
The journalists were part of an NEDC delegation led by the Minister of State for Regional Development, Alhaji Uba Maigari Ahmadu, during the handover of completed projects to the Bauchi State Government.
The accident occurred along the Yashi–Yelwan Duguri Road in Alkaleri Local Government Area shortly after the delegation concluded the commissioning of a Government Secondary School (GSS) project in Yelwan Duguri.
Several journalists sustained injuries in the incident. They were first rushed to the Yelwan Duguri Cottage Hospital for emergency medical attention before arrangements were made to transfer them to the Bauchi General Hospital for further treatment.
Those injured include journalists from Channels Television, African Independent Television (AIT), Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), ARISE News, Bauchi Television Authority (BATV), as well as members of the Correspondents’ Chapel from other media organisations covering the event.
Members of the delegation at the time of the incident included the Minister of State for Regional Development, the Chairman and Managing Director of the NEDC, the Deputy Governor of Bauchi State, and other government officials.
Details surrounding the cause of the accident are yet to be fully ascertained as at the time of filing this report.
