Nottingham Forest sack Sean Dyche after relegation fears intensify

Nottingham Forest have sacked manager Sean Dyche after Wednesday’s drab 0-0 home draw against bottom club Wolves deepened the club’s relegation concerns.

The stalemate at the City Ground left Forest hovering just three points above the Premier League relegation zone, prompting owner Evangelos Marinakis to make yet another managerial change in what has been a turbulent season.

“Nottingham Forest Football Club can confirm that Sean Dyche has been relieved of his duties as head coach,” the club said in a statement on X.

“We would like to thank Sean and his staff for their efforts during their time at the club and we wish them the best of luck for the future.”

Fourth Manager This Season

Dyche becomes Forest’s fourth manager this campaign, lasting just 114 days in charge after replacing Ange Postecoglou. Earlier in the season, Nuno Espirito Santo had also been dismissed following reported disagreements with Marinakis over transfer policy.

Forest’s instability in the dugout has mirrored their struggles on the pitch. Against Wolves, Dyche’s side produced 35 shots but failed to score, drawing loud boos from frustrated supporters at full-time.

The result proved to be the final straw.

Dyche Saw It Coming

Speaking shortly after the draw — before his dismissal was confirmed — Dyche appeared resigned to his fate.

“The owner has been fair to me, without a shadow of a doubt,” the 54-year-old said.

“If anyone chooses to change in football now, that’s their decision. We’ve all seen it. If the owner wants to make a change, then that’s up to him. That’s the way football is now — that’s just the reality of it.”

Dyche, previously in charge at Burnley and Everton, described himself as a “realist” about the precarious nature of modern football management.

“He’s been absolutely fair with me from the beginning to the end, and I’ve been fair with him and told him the truth every step of the way,” he added.

His departure came just hours after Tottenham parted ways with Thomas Frank, underlining the ruthless climate currently sweeping through the Premier League.

From Europe to Survival Fight

Forest’s decline has been dramatic. Under Nuno Espirito Santo last season, they secured qualification for the Europa League and appeared to be building momentum.

However, internal tensions led to Nuno’s exit, and subsequent managerial changes have destabilised the club. Postecoglou lasted only 39 days, while Dyche’s tenure barely stretched beyond three months.

Marinakis must now identify yet another successor — and quickly.

Forest face a Europa League trip to Turkey to take on Fenerbahce on February 19, before a daunting Premier League clash at home against Liverpool three days later.

With relegation pressure mounting and European commitments looming, the next appointment could prove decisive in shaping Forest’s season — and their top-flight future.
