Sen. Ndume pledges Support for infrastructure, social development in Biu
Senator Muhammad Ali Ndume has reaffirmed his dedication to improving infrastructure and advancing social programs in Biu Emirate following a high-level meeting with the Biu Forum executives and stakeholders on Thursday, July 31, 2025.
During the meeting, which formed part of the Forum’s ongoing engagement with key stakeholders, representatives presented a list of critical issues needing the Senator’s intervention. National Chairman of the Forum, Alhaji Mai Mustapha Muhammad, began by appreciating Senator Ndume’s continued support, highlighting his presence at the Forum’s inaugural meeting in Kaduna as a testament to his commitment.
Top on the agenda was an appeal for Senator Ndume to push for the federal government’s completion of the Biu Dam project. The Forum noted that one of the contractors had expressed readiness to resume work, while the Borno State government remains supportive of the project.
Attention was also drawn to the deplorable condition of federal roads in the Emirate. Alhaji Mustapha called for urgent rehabilitation of the Biu-Numan, Biu-Damaturu, Biu-Gombi, and Biu-Gombe routes, which he said have seriously affected residents’ lives and economic activity.
The Forum also urged the Senator to address the lingering issues concerning the Nigerian Army University Biu (NAUB), stressing the institution’s importance to the region and calling for National Assembly intervention.
Further discussions included a proposal to foster stronger relationships and communication channels between the Emirate and its National and State Assembly members. Other resolutions included designating a day to honour local heroes, and launching women empowerment programs aimed at curbing street hawking, boosting girls’ education, and addressing the growing number of out-of-school children.
In response, Senator Ndume expressed gratitude for the Forum’s visit and assured the delegation of his commitment to all the issues presented. He emphasized that collaboration with Rt. Hon. Muktar Aliyu Betara, who represents Biu, Bayo, Kwaya, and Shani federal constituency, along with former Chief of Army Staff General Yusuf Tukur Buratai (Rtd), would facilitate achieving these goals.
The meeting concluded with both parties pledging continued cooperation to enhance development across Biu Emirate.
