In a major success against illegal arms trafficking, police operatives in Katsina State intercepted a vehicle carrying firearms and ammunition, recovering more than 1,295 rounds of live ammunition.
DCP Muyiwa Adejobi, Force Public Relations Officer, stated that on September 1, 2025, at about 4:35 a.m., a patrol team attached to the Katsina State Command apprehended two suspects along the Ingawa–Karkarku village road.
The suspects, Abdussalam Muhammed (25) and Aminu Mamman (23), both from Baure village in Safana Local Government Area, were arrested following credible intelligence and a swift tactical operation.
Searches of their vehicle, a blue Volkswagen Golf (registration RSH-528 BV), revealed:
One General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG)
1,063 rounds of 7.62x39mm AK-47 ammunition
232 rounds of 7.62x69mm PKT ammunition
Preliminary investigations indicate the arms were being transported from Hadejia in Jigawa State to Safana LGA in Katsina State. Further inquiries are ongoing to trace the source, intended recipients, and the broader network behind the weapons.
The suspects remain in custody pending further investigation.
Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, praised the swift action of the officers and urged the public to continue providing timely intelligence to help security agencies protect lives and property.
