Retired Major General Rabe Abubakar dies in bandits’ captivity, Katsina Govt confirms
The Katsina State Government has announced the death of retired Major General Rabe Abubakar while in the custody of bandits, describing the development as a tragic loss to the state and the nation.
In a statement issued on Friday by the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr. Nasiru Mu’azu, the government said the retired military officer died in captivity despite sustained efforts by security agencies and government authorities to secure his release.
According to the statement, the late General died from complications arising from diabetes and hypertension while being held by his abductors.
“The Katsina State Government, with a heavy heart and deep sense of loss, wishes to inform the general public of the tragic passing of Retired Major General Rabe Abubakar.
“It is with profound sadness that we confirm the General’s death while in bandits’ captivity. Despite the relentless and concerted efforts of the State Government and various Security Agencies to secure his safe release, the situation ended in this tragedy,” the statement read.
The government described his death as a monumental loss, noting that the late General served the nation with distinction and dedication.
Governor Dikko Umaru Radda extended his condolences to the family of the deceased, the people of Katsina State and Nigerians at large.
The governor described the incident as a dark moment and a reminder of the urgent need to intensify efforts against criminal elements threatening peace and security across communities.

The Katsina State Government reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with the Federal Government and security agencies to ensure those responsible for the abduction and death of the retired General are brought to justice.
It also assured residents that efforts to combat banditry and improve security across the state would continue unabated.
