Shettima arrives Guinea for Doumbouya’s inauguration

Vice President Kashim Shettima has arrived in Conakry, the capital of Guinea, to represent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the inauguration of President-elect Mamady Doumbouya.

The development was confirmed in a statement issued on Friday by Mr Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications, Office of the Vice President.

According to the statement, the Vice President was received on arrival by senior officials of the Guinean government as well as members of the Nigerian diplomatic mission ahead of the inauguration ceremony scheduled for Saturday at the GLC Stadium, Nongo.

Nkwocha said Doumbouya’s inauguration follows his victory in the December 2025 general elections, marking the formal conclusion of Guinea’s four-year military transition and a return to constitutional governance.

He noted that Shettima’s presence at the ceremony underscores Nigeria’s leadership role within the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and its continued commitment to democratic stability in the sub-region.

The aide added that under President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda, Nigeria has remained a key advocate for constitutional order as a foundation for peace, security and economic growth across West Africa.

According to Nkwocha, the visit also serves as a strategic engagement aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and expanding economic cooperation between Nigeria and Guinea.
