Many trapped as Two-Storey Building collapses in Akure
Many construction workers were on Tuesday trapped, while several others sustained varying degrees of injuries after a two-storey building under construction collapsed along the busy Oyemekun Road in Akure, the Ondo State capital.
As of the time of filing this report, it could not be immediately confirmed if the incident claimed any lives.
Eyewitnesses said the workers were actively on site when the structure suddenly caved in at about 3:30 p.m., throwing the area into panic.
Following the collapse, sympathisers, passers-by and nearby residents reportedly rushed to the scene to assist in rescuing those trapped beneath the rubble, as emergency rescue efforts began.
Rescue operations were still ongoing at press time, while relevant authorities were expected to arrive at the scene to assess the situation and provide official details on the cause of the collapse and the number of victims involved.
