‘An Injury to One Is an Injury to All’ — FCT Labour vows to continue strike

Labour unions in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have been directed to intensify and sustain their ongoing industrial action until all outstanding workers’ demands are fully addressed.

In a reinforcement directive issued to all affiliate unions, labour leaders said the struggle of workers of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) must continue, warning that any retreat at this stage would only embolden further violations of workers’ rights.

The unions said key issues remain unresolved, including unpaid wage awards and promotion arrears, non-remittance of pension and National Housing Fund (NHF) deductions, as well as what they described as continued intimidation of workers.

According to the directive, these issues constitute grave violations that are unacceptable and inconsistent with the principles of fairness, justice and decent work.

Affiliate unions were consequently instructed to fully maintain their participation in the industrial action and to reinforce the mobilisation of members for all congress-approved activities.

They were also directed to mobilise members to participate daily in prayer and solidarity sessions scheduled to hold from 8:00am to 5:00pm at designated venues across the FCT.

“This struggle demands unity, discipline and unwavering commitment. Any retreat at this stage will only embolden further violations against workers,” the directive stated.

The unions stressed that strict compliance with the directive is required in the collective interest of the Nigerian working class, reiterating the long-held labour slogan: “An injury to one is an injury to all.”
