Super Eagles goalie Obasogie suspended over match-fixing allegation
Super Eagles reserve goalkeeper Amas Obasogie has been suspended for three months by Tanzanian Premier League side Singida Black Stars over alleged match-fixing.
The Tanzanian club announced on Friday that its disciplinary committee imposed the suspension to allow investigations into the allegations involving the Nigerian shot-stopper.
The club, however, did not disclose details of the alleged match-fixing or the matches under investigation.
Obasogie, 26, is one of two players sanctioned by the club in the disciplinary action announced publicly, with the management also stressing the importance of discipline and respect for club values.
“The leadership of Singida Black Stars SC, through the Disciplinary Committee, has taken disciplinary action against players Khalid Aucho and Amas Obasogie.
“Amas Obasogie suspended for three months to allow investigation into match-fixing allegations.
“The club reminds all players and staff to uphold discipline, accountability, and respect for the club,” the statement read.
Obasogie moved abroad from the Nigeria Premier Football League to join Fasil Kenema SC in the Ethiopian Premier League, where he spent just over four months before transferring to Singida Black Stars. He has made seven appearances for the Tanzanian side so far.
The suspension is considered a precautionary measure pending the outcome of investigations into the allegations.
