Nigerian Army neutralises dozens of bandits in Bello Turji’s camp
Troops of the Nigerian have neutralised dozens of armed bandits during a major offensive targeting the camp of notorious kingpin in the North-West.
The operation, carried out by the 8 Division Strike Force, focused on hideouts located within the Fakai axis spanning and local government areas.
According to security sources, the assault began in the early hours of March 20, as troops advanced deep into the Kagara Forest, a known stronghold for armed groups operating in the region.
However, the operation encountered an early setback when two combat support vehicles developed mechanical faults near Maberaya village in Isa LGA, forcing a temporary pause in the troops’ advance.
Taking advantage of the situation, heavily armed fighters loyal to Turji reportedly launched an ambush from elevated and forested positions.
Despite the surprise attack, troops responded with superior firepower, engaging the assailants in a fierce gun battle and successfully neutralising several of them.
During the exchange, three soldiers and one operative of the sustained injuries. They were promptly evacuated to the 8 Division Military Hospital in for medical attention.
Military sources described the operation as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle bandit networks and restore security across troubled parts of the North-West.
Meanwhile, authorities have dismissed circulating reports claiming that over 150 bandits died in a boat accident in the Sabon Gida area of Sokoto State.
The Area Manager of the in Sokoto, , described the claim as false, noting that the river in question is currently not navigable.
Security agencies have urged the public to disregard unverified reports and rely on official updates regarding ongoing operations in the region.
