BREAKING: ADC leaders, members protest in Abuja over alleged INEC partisanship
Chieftains and members of the opposition African Democratic Congress (ADC) took to the streets of Abuja on Wednesday morning to protest against what they described as the alleged partisanship of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The demonstration, which proceeded toward INEC’s headquarters, was described by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as peaceful and aimed at “safeguarding our democracy and preventing the enthronement of a dictatorship.” On his verified social media handles, he wrote:
> “Myself and other leaders of the ADC are peacefully protesting against the partisanship of the electoral umpire. Our patriotic stance is aimed at safeguarding our democracy and preventing the enthronement of a dictatorship.”
Prominent figures in the procession included former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, factional ADC National Chairman David Mark, former Kano State Governor and national leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, former Osun State Governor and factional ADC National Secretary Rauf Aregbesola, former Secretary to the Government of the Federation Babachir Lawal, Senator Dino Melaye, and immediate past Deputy Governor of Kano State, Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo.
Also present were activist and electoral reform campaigner Peter Randy-Akaah, alongside a large crowd of ADC members and supporters, all marching to demand impartiality from the electoral body.
The protest reflects the growing tension between the ADC and INEC, as opposition leaders continue to accuse the electoral commission of bias favoring the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). The march aimed to draw attention to perceived threats to democratic governance and the independence of electoral institutions in Nigeria. Further updates on the protest and official responses from INEC are expected.
