CBN warns public over fake Tinubu N5,000 banknote image
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has dismissed as false a viral image circulating on social media, which purportedly shows a newly introduced N5,000 banknote featuring President Bola Tinubu.
The image, widely shared online, sparked reactions and debates among users who claimed the apex bank had introduced a new currency design.
However, the CBN, in a post on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, refuted the claim, stating that the information was fake and misleading.
“This content is fake. Let the public be guided,” the bank said.
The apex bank also recalled that in 2025 it had similarly debunked reports alleging the introduction of N5,000 and N10,000 banknotes, describing such claims as false and unverified.
The CBN urged members of the public to disregard misinformation and rely only on official channels for authentic financial updates.
