NAWOJ announces Maiden Women in Security Summit and Awards

The National Chairperson of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Hajiya Aishatu Ibrahim, has announced plans for the maiden edition of the Women in Security Summit and Awards (WINSEC 2026), describing it as a national platform to promote peace, security, gender inclusion, and excellence in service.

In a press briefing on Monday ahead of the event, Ibrahim said the summit, scheduled for Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja, will bring together key stakeholders from government, the military, paramilitary agencies, law enforcement, intelligence community, civil society, academia, the media, and the private sector.

She explained that the initiative is aimed at recognising the contributions of women in security and strengthening collaboration among stakeholders in the collective effort to build a safer Nigeria.

According to her, the awards segment of the summit will honour individuals who have made outstanding contributions to national security, public safety, peacebuilding, humanitarian service, community policing, leadership, and media advocacy.

Ibrahim also stressed the role of the media in combating misinformation, promoting peaceful coexistence, and supporting national security while safeguarding press freedom.

She called on corporate organisations, development partners, public institutions, and patriotic Nigerians to support the initiative, noting that celebrating excellence would inspire greater dedication to national service.

The NAWOJ chairperson said the summit would serve as a platform to deepen trust between the media and security institutions, encourage inclusion, and advance sustainable peace and development in Nigeria.
