FCT Police Re-Arrest Two Ex-Convicts Over Alleged Child Trafficking, Rescue Four-Year-Old

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has re-arrested two ex-convicts, Rose Daniel and Blessing John, over alleged child abduction and trafficking, following the rescue of a four-year-old girl in Kuje, Abuja.

The suspects were arrested on August 27, 2026, while allegedly attempting to flee with the child, identified as Ummi Mariam Abdullah.

FCT Police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, said the arrests followed credible intelligence and an alert from a concerned resident who reportedly witnessed the incident.

Adeh said police operatives responded to the report, rescued the child and arrested the two suspects.

“Responding swiftly to the report, Police operatives arrived at the scene, rescued the child and arrested both suspects,” she said.

According to the police spokesperson, preliminary investigations showed that Daniel and John had previously been arrested in December 2025 and arraigned before a court over a similar alleged offence.

She said the suspects were subsequently convicted and released on bail after spending about five months in custody.

Adeh said further investigations indicated that the suspects allegedly resumed their activities after their release and had abducted and trafficked four children to different parts of the country.

She said the latest investigation uncovered a case involving two children who were allegedly taken to a suspected accomplice in Port Harcourt, identified as Madam Ijeoma.

The police alleged that the children were sold to the woman for N1.5 million each.

Meanwhile, the four-year-old girl rescued in Kuje has been reunited with her family.

The two suspects remain in police custody as investigators continue to establish the full circumstances surrounding the alleged offences.

Adeh said the suspects would be charged to court after the conclusion of investigations.

“The suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations,” she added.

The FCT Police Command urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant and pay close attention to the safety and whereabouts of their children and wards.

The command also appealed to members of the public to promptly report suspicious persons, movements or activities to the nearest police station or through its emergency lines.
