FCT Police arrest suspect, recover stolen Toyota Hilux in Kaduna

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested a suspected car thief and recovered a Toyota Hilux stolen in Abuja after a swift operation by operatives of the Maitama Police Division.

The Command said the vehicle, stolen in the Wuse II area of the FCT, was traced and recovered in Kubacha, Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State within hours of the incident.

According to a statement issued on Friday by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the Divisional Police Officer of Maitama Division, CSP Altine Daniel, received a distress call at about 1:45 p.m. on June 20, 2026, reporting the theft of a white Toyota Hilux, 2014 model, with registration number BWR 712 CV.

The complainant informed the police that the vehicle had been parked at about 1:30 p.m. in Wuse II but was discovered missing approximately four minutes later after an unknown individual allegedly drove it away.

Following the report, the DPO led a team of operatives to the scene while all police formations and deployments along entry and exit routes within the FCT were immediately alerted to conduct stop-and-search operations aimed at intercepting the stolen vehicle.

The police said digital tracking technology aided the operation, leading to the recovery of the vehicle at Kubacha in Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State at about 3:30 p.m. on the same day.

One suspect was arrested in connection with the theft.

The suspect and the recovered vehicle are currently in police custody, while investigations are ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident and identify any accomplices.

The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, urged residents to remain security conscious and take proactive measures to safeguard their vehicles and other valuables.

He advised vehicle owners to install functional tracking devices, avoid leaving valuables unattended inside vehicles, and promptly report suspicious persons or activities to the nearest police station or through the FCT Police Command emergency lines: 08032003913 and 07057337653.
