The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, has raised N5.01 million to support the children of its late former Chairman, Comrade Patrick Osadebamwen.

The council’s Chairman, Comrade Grace Ike, disclosed this on Monday, September 7, 2026, while appreciating members for their generosity and solidarity following the appeal for financial assistance to the late journalist’s children.

Ike said the fundraising had reached N5,010,000, describing the gesture as a reflection of the spirit of brotherhood, sisterhood and collective responsibility within the union.

She said the funds would be handed over to Osadebamwen’s sister for the welfare, upkeep and general well-being of his children.

“Through our collective efforts, we raised the sum of ₦5,010,000, which will be handed over to the late Comrade Patrick’s sister for the welfare, upkeep, and well-being of the children,” she stated.

The NUJ FCT chairman said the initiative went beyond financial assistance, describing it as a demonstration that the life, service and memory of the late journalist remained valued by the media community.

She commended members who responded to the appeal, saying their contributions had provided comfort and renewed hope to the bereaved family during a difficult period.

Ike also assured members that the funds would be managed transparently and accountably, adding that evidence of the transactions would be published on the NUJ FCT Council’s platform.

She said any additional contributions received after the announcement would also be properly accounted for and handed over to the family.

According to Ike, the fundraising further demonstrated the union’s commitment to standing by its members and their families during times of need.

She thanked members for their “kindness, sacrifice and commitment” to the ideals of the union and prayed for their continued prosperity and capacity to support one another.
