Gov. Alia unveils plans for Security Summit to address Insecurity in Benue

Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has announced plans to convene a State Security Summit aimed at addressing the worsening insecurity plaguing the state.
The governor made the disclosure during a meeting at the Government House in Makurdi with an advisory team dispatched by the Chief of Defence Staff to assess the security situation in Benue. The team, led by Emmanuel Oche, was received by the state’s Chief Security Officer and Governor Alia.
Governor Alia emphasized the urgent need to restore peace, stating that concrete steps must be taken immediately. He revealed that the proposed security summit would begin at the sub-national level and later expand to include the broader North Central region.
The Defence Headquarters advisory team informed the governor that they had earlier visited key traditional and religious leaders, including the Chairman of the State Council of Chiefs, the Tor Tiv, and the Catholic Bishop of Katsina-Ala Diocese.
They also disclosed plans to proceed to Benue South Senatorial District for further engagements with stakeholders, including the Vice Chairman of the State Council of Chiefs, the Ochi Idoma, as part of efforts to gather comprehensive insights into the security challenges facing various parts of the state.
