NFF denies owing Late Christian Chukwu
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has refuted claims circulating on social media that it owes former Nigeria captain and coach, Christian Chukwu, the sum of $128,000.
In a statement issued by NFF General Secretary, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, the football body expressed its disappointment over these reports, emphasizing that there is no record of any indebtedness to Chukwu. The controversy stems from reports alleging that the NFF owes the 1980 Africa Cup of Nations-winning team captain following his tenure as coach.
Dr. Sanusi clarified that Chukwu was relieved of his duties after Nigeria’s 1-1 draw with Angola in a FIFA World Cup qualifying match in Kano in August 2005, and there are no outstanding financial obligations to him.
The NFF official further challenged anyone who claims to have verifiable and genuine documents proving the federation’s debt to any national team coach over the past two decades to come forward and present them.
This clarification comes amidst the ongoing mourning of Chukwu, who passed away on Saturday, and follows earlier tributes honoring his contributions to Nigerian football.
