Amaechi picks ADC presidential form ahead of 2027 elections
Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has officially entered the race for the 2027 presidency after obtaining the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential expression of interest and nomination forms.
The forms were picked up on his behalf on Friday at the ADC national secretariat in Abuja by a delegation led by former Edo State Governor, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, alongside other prominent political stakeholders.
The nomination documents were formally presented to Amaechi’s representatives by the party’s Deputy National Organising Secretary, Atiku Mohammed.
With this development, Amaechi becomes the second aspirant to join the ADC presidential contest, following earlier submissions by economist Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, who had also obtained the party’s nomination forms.
The ADC has, however, been facing internal leadership disputes and ongoing court cases that have continued to generate uncertainty within the party.
Amid the crisis, some high-profile politicians, including Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, were reported to have moved to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), a development linked to wider realignments ahead of the 2027 elections.
The ADC National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, however, dismissed claims that the defections were triggered by internal crisis, describing them as premeditated political decisions unrelated to the party’s internal affairs.
Despite the controversies, ADC National Chairman, Senator David Mark, has maintained that the party remains on course and will fully participate in the 2027 general elections.
