BREAKING: Fubara dissolves Rivers Executive Council
Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has dissolved the State Executive Council, bringing an end to the tenure of all Commissioners and Special Advisers in his administration.
The development was announced in a statement issued on Thursday by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Onwuka Nzeshi.
According to the statement, Governor Fubara directed all affected officials to hand over to the Permanent Secretaries or the most senior officers in their respective ministries with immediate effect.
“His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS, Governor of Rivers State, has dissolved the State Executive Council.
“His Excellency, the Governor, has therefore directed all Commissioners and Special Advisers to hand over to the Permanent Secretaries or the most Senior officers in their Ministries with immediate effect.
“His Excellency further expresses his deepest appreciation to the outgoing members of the Executive Council, wishing them the best in their future endeavours,” the statement read.
The dissolution comes 48 hours after the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, confirmed ongoing reconciliation efforts aimed at resolving the protracted political crisis in the state.
Wike disclosed that President Bola Tinubu recently convened a meeting with key political stakeholders from Rivers State, including Governor Fubara and his predecessor, in a renewed push to ease tensions stemming from the power struggle in the oil-rich state.
The closed-door meeting, held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, was attended by prominent political leaders from Rivers, signalling fresh efforts at restoring stability to the state’s political landscape.
Observers say the dissolution of the Executive Council may be part of broader political realignments following the reconciliation talks.
