Cleric distributes rice to members at Easter, preaches love
In the spirit of Easter, the Founder of World Harvest Ministries, Jikwoyi, Abuja, Archbishop Professor Leonard Bature Kawas, has distributed bags of rice to members of his church, extending support to dozens of families as part of the celebration.
The outreach, held at the church premises, saw at least 40 families benefit from the latest round of distribution, coming just a week after over 150 families were similarly supported.
Explaining the rationale behind the gesture, Archbishop Kawas said the act was inspired by the teachings and sacrifice of Jesus Christ, which Easter commemorates.
“The distribution of rice is the continuation of the Ministry of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is the continuation of the extension of the love of God to humanity because God sending His only Son to come and die on the cross was a show of the love of God,” he said.
He noted that the church remains committed to demonstrating God’s love through practical support to members, particularly in challenging times.
“As Christians, we must continue to extend that love, and that is the purpose for which we blessed 40 families today. Last Sunday we blessed over 150 families, and today we blessed 40 specially,” he added.
The cleric also used the occasion to urge Nigerians to uphold love and unity despite the country’s security and economic challenges.
“My message for Nigerians and Christians as we celebrate Easter is that everyone that believes in God and has received Jesus as their Lord must continue to extend that love. Let’s not allow the insecurity in the country to make us become haters. Let us still continue to extend love to those who need love,” he said.
Beneficiaries of the rice distribution expressed appreciation to the cleric for the timely support.
Pastor Grace Asim, a children’s pastor in the church, described the gesture as a source of joy and relief.
“I am so excited and happy to be blessed by the man of God. I am blessed and happy. I pray that God increases him the more and replenishes his pocket,” she said.
Another beneficiary also conveyed gratitude, praying for greater capacity for the cleric to continue his humanitarian efforts.
“I am very happy about it. We pray God opens more doors for the Bishop to do more,” the beneficiary said..
