Ex-Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai returns to Court after mother’s burial
Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has returned to the State High Court in Kaduna ahead of the scheduled hearing of his bail application at the Federal High Court.
El-Rufai arrived at the court on Tuesday following his release from the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), which allowed him to attend the burial of his mother, Hajiya Umma. She passed away in Egypt on Friday, where she was receiving medical treatment, and was laid to rest on Sunday.
The funeral prayer attracted prominent figures, including Atiku Abubakar, Aliko Dangote, Peter Obi, Rotimi Amaechi, and Isa Pantami.
El-Rufai has been in ICPC custody since February 19, 2026, following his release from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), facing charges related to fraud and money laundering. His bail hearing, initially adjourned on March 24, has been rescheduled for March 31.
ICPC sources confirmed that his release on March 27 was granted on compassionate grounds to allow him to attend his mother’s burial.
