BREAKING: Kaduna Court adjourns El-Rufai’s bail hearing to June as tension grows
The Kaduna State High Court has adjourned the bail hearing of former Governor Nasir El-Rufai to the first week of June 2026.
According to Channels Television on Tuesday, Justice Darius Khobo shifted the date after proceedings in the ongoing case in which the former governor is facing multiple charges bordering on alleged financial crimes and abuse of office filed by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
Speaking after the court session, counsel to the former governor, Ukpon Akpan, criticised the repeated postponement of the bail hearing, describing it as politically motivated.
El-Rufai arrived at the court around 9 a.m. in a convoy accompanied by operatives of the ICPC and the Department of State Services (DSS), while security agencies restricted movement within the court premises.
Supporters of the former governor also gathered outside the courtroom as proceedings were conducted under tight security.
The matter was subsequently adjourned to the first week of June for ruling on the bail application.
The latest development comes amid earlier claims by El-Rufai of what he described as a fresh plot to implicate him in criminal activities and frustrate his release on bail.
The former governor had warned of what he called malicious orchestrations aimed at ensuring his continued detention.
He also recalled an incident on February 12, 2026, when he alleged there were plans to arrest him upon his arrival at Abuja Airport from Cairo, saying the episode marked the beginning of a troubling pattern.
The court had earlier fixed April 21 for ruling on the bail application after hearing arguments from both parties before the latest adjournment to June.
