FCT Police Commissioner strengthens security ahead of IGP Honours, Sallah, June 12
The Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), CP Ajao Adewale, has reinforced security measures across Abuja in preparation for the Inspector-General of Police Honours and Awards Night, the upcoming Eid-el-Kabir festivities, and Democracy Day celebrations on June 12.
This was disclosed in a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, who said the move followed a strategic security meeting held on Monday with Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), and heads of tactical units in the FCT Command.
According to the statement, CP Ajao ordered enhanced visibility policing, deployment of Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) teams to public gathering points, and swift response to emergency calls during the period.
He further issued stern warnings against acts of extortion, illegal stop-and-search operations, and unlawful involvement in civil disputes, emphasising the importance of professional conduct and accountability among officers.
The police commissioner also directed officers to actively engage with local communities and youths, intensify efforts to tackle criminal activities, and promote public confidence through discipline, courtesy, and timely response to security concerns.
CP Ajao reassured residents of the FCT that the command remains committed to maintaining peace and ensuring the safety of lives and property throughout the forthcoming celebrations.
