Gunmen abduct, kill Ondo Monarch in Palace attack

Gunmen have killed Kehinde Jacob Faledon, the traditional ruler of Agamo community in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State.

According to reports, the assailants stormed the monarch’s palace on Wednesday night and forcibly took him away. Minutes later, Faledon was discovered with gunshot injuries at a location close to his residence. He was confirmed dead at the scene.

The spokesperson of the Ondo State Police Command, Jimoh Abayomi, confirmed the incident and said the command has launched an investigation to apprehend those responsible.

Abayomi disclosed that the police received information about the attack at about 7:50 p.m. from a community leader, High Chief Ajewole Clement of New Town, Itaogbolu.

“About six armed men stormed the residence of the monarch and forcibly took him away,” the police spokesperson said.

“The victim was subsequently found with gunshot injuries and was confirmed dead at the scene.”

He added that the Divisional Police Officer, supported by tactical teams, has mobilised officers in collaboration with local hunters, Atuluse Security, and operatives of the Western Nigeria Security Network (Amotekun) to comb surrounding bushes and neighbouring communities.

Police authorities said monitoring activities have been intensified to safeguard residents and prevent any breakdown of law and order, while efforts continue to track down the perpetrators of the attack.
