Eight killed as Dangote Truck loses control in Ondo
A tragic accident involving a Dangote truck has claimed eight lives, including a pregnant woman and her child, in Ore, Ondo State.
According to Sahara Reporters, the cement-loaded truck lost control on Wednesday evening along the Ore–Benin Expressway after its brakes failed. The truck ran into several cars, motorcycles, and roadside traders.
Witnesses said the crash was very terrible. “The truck was moving very fast. Before anyone could escape, it crushed people and cars,” said one trader. “The pregnant woman and her child died on the spot.”
Officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed the accident. They said the bodies of the victims had been taken to the Ore General Hospital morgue, while the injured were rushed to nearby hospitals.
The FRSC commander in Ondo State, Ezekiel Soniran, said the crash happened because of brake failure and over-speeding. He advised all drivers to always check their vehicles before driving, especially heavy trucks.
After the accident, angry residents blocked the road for several hours. They said truck drivers often drive carelessly and nothing is being done to stop them. “We are tired of seeing innocent people die on this road,” one protester said.
Police later arrived at the scene and arrested the truck driver for questioning.
This sad incident is one of many accidents involving Dangote trucks in recent times, and residents are calling on the government and the company to take stronger steps to prevent such crashes.
