Hunger pangs: Blessing in disguise

Have you ever wondered about or tried to understand the significance of hunger pangs in a human being, especially an adult?
I have often marvelled at the fact that hunger pangs remain one of the strongest sensations no healthy person can ignore, regardless of their age.
I have watched newborn babies cry so loudly the moment hunger pangs strike, especially when their mothers or caregivers delay in preparing their meals. Likewise, I have seen fully grown men and women become visibly unsettled under the grip of intense hunger.
A few days ago, I found myself pondering why God placed these hunger pangs in the human body. Observing how the pangs begin to set in shortly after waking up in the morning intrigued me even more.
You can hear toddlers, even those just learning to speak, crying and calling out, “Mummy, food!” Meanwhile, older children, capable of fending for themselves, start hovering around the kitchen or dining area, eager to satisfy their hunger as quickly as possible.
I have concluded that hunger pangs serve as a reminder that one is alive and well. Beyond that, they also act as a driving force for adults to work and earn a living. After all, hunger pangs do not take into account whether one’s hustle for the day was successful, whether salaries have been paid, or whether clients have settled their invoices. They simply arrive—always uninvited!
Reflecting on the scripture that states, “Anyone who does not work should not eat,” I am further convinced that the fear of hunger pangs may be an added incentive for some individuals to engage in productive labour, regardless of their mood or circumstances.
In conclusion, I have come to appreciate the blessedness of hunger pangs. They serve as an additional motivation to ensure that, as an adult, one has a steady source of income and a well-stocked pantry, kitchen, or refrigerator. The fear of hunger pangs might just be the extra push needed to strive for success.
What is your own opinion on the usefulness of hunger pangs?
