INEC Confirms 1.9m PVCs Collected Ahead of Osun Governorship Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed that 1,906,390 Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) have been collected ahead of Saturday’s Osun State governorship election.

The figure represents 81.50 per cent of the 2,339,233 registered voters in the state, according to INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Haruna.

INEC said the remaining 426,842 PVCs, representing 18.50 per cent, had been securely deposited with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in line with the commission’s established procedure.

The commission also disclosed that 6,101 voters whose cards were damaged, defaced or lost applied for replacements and subsequently printed downloadable copies of their PVCs.

INEC said it had published a polling-unit-by-polling-unit breakdown of the collected PVCs on its website.

The electoral body further assured political parties, civil society organisations, the media and residents of Osun State of its readiness to conduct a free, fair, credible, transparent and inclusive election on Saturday, August 15, 2026.

Meanwhile, security preparations have intensified across the state as the election draws closer.

The Nigeria Police Force is deploying thousands of personnel across Osun’s 30 local government areas, with police sources indicating that at least four officers will be assigned to each of the state’s 3,673 polling units.

The deployment figure does not include personnel from other security agencies expected to participate in the election security operation.
